About CA

me

My day job is an Information Security Analyst for the University of Alabama. I have over 16 years of experience in Systems/Network Administration, Project Management, Messaging/Groupware Administration, Security Analysis, Solutions Consulting & IT Business Analysis.

I can create the vision to match Information Technology to business problems or goals, manage the projects toward that or another vision, provide guidance on how to plan for the future and prepare for the worst with policies and disaster recovery plans.

Before joining the University’s Office of Information Technology, I have worked in the Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Consultancy industries. While consulting, I have experienced additional industries: Energy, Finance, & Governmental.

One of the happiest days of my life was when the most intelligent and wonderful woman I know agreed to join me in this lifelong adventure. I have been married to this most excellent woman – Toni – for 19 years, as of July 2012.

Toni has achieved her Ph.D. in Medical and Cultural Anthropology. Now, she is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Mississippi State University.

We have three sons – Teddy, Forest, and River, and a daughter, Michelle, attending The Capitol School.

Though my prime hobby is computers, I’m also taking after my Grandfather by gardening. In my spare time not playing in the dirt or with a computer, I enjoy playing frisbee and the Wii with my wife and kids, as well as writing science fiction.

During November 2009, along with thousands of others, I attempted to complete the NaNoWriMo challenge (National Novel Writing Month – nanowrimo.org) where the goal is to start a new story on the first and by the first of December, write at least 50,000 words. I DID IT!

Since then, I have completed the training for CheckPoint Certified Security Administrator R70 and the Introduction to Ruby Programming.

November 2011: I was notified that I had passed all requirements and the examination needed to earn my CISSP certification.
