NaBloPoMo 2011: Day 9

When was the first time that you realized that your home was not like other people’s homes?
(Guest Post by Catherine Gildiner, author of After the Falls)

Actually, our house, when I was growing up, was pretty much like everyone else’s house. It was my grandparents’ house that comes to mind when this question was asked. I was 12 or 13 before I realized that it was really weird to have an exposed brick wall inside a house and a small window high up on that wall looking out into the Den.

Along that time it finally “clicked” that the Den area had been added on to the original house and instead of covering or “walling up” the original wall and kitchen window, they just left it. so in the den there is a red brick wall and high window sill with a small window over the kitchen sink looking out over the Den.
